Protest father on assault charge
A Fathers-4-Justice campaigner who contested the Hartlepool by-election has appeared before magistrates charged with assaulting a fellow candidate.

Paul Watson, 35, is charged with common assault and criminal damage, after Liberal Democrat candidate Jody Dunn had purple powder thrown over her.

Mr Watson, of Thornley, County Durham, was granted unconditional bail.

The hearing at Hartlepool Magistrates' Court on Wednesday was adjourned until 17 November.
