Carlisle chairman is fined 2,500
Carlisle United owner John Courtenay
John Courtenay had denied the charges
Magistrates in Cumbria have revoked a community service order imposed on a football chairman for his part in a brawl at a football game.

Carlisle United's John Courtenay was ordered to serve 150 hours after his conviction for threatening behaviour at a match in Lincoln in August 2002.

But magistrates in Carlisle on Thursday accepted that his business commitments did not give him time to complete it.

Courtenay, 54, was ordered to pay a fine of 2,500.

Magistrates handed down the fine after Courtenay had failed to notify the probation service of his new address, breaching the community service order.

There was trouble after Courtenay and Carlisle striker Richie Foran, who had been sent off earlier in the match, were asked to leave the directors' box towards the end of the game.

The pair had just seen Lincoln miss a penalty to hand Carlisle a 1-0 victory - despite the visitors having had three men, including Foran, sent off.

Foran was sentenced to 200 hours community service following the incident.
