Toll still popular say operators

Charges for cars using the tolls have risen
An increase in the cost of the M6 Toll has not deterred motorists, according to its operators.

Midlands Expressway Limited introduced standard rates on the 27-mile route last month after an introductory period of discounted travel.

Managing Director Tom Fanning said the daily average traffic figures for July and August had been maintained.

He added that more haulage fleets were starting to use the motorway following a reduced fee for HGVs.

'Excellent value'

Last month, charges for cars using the tolls during the day rose from 1 to 3 and 2 at night. But charges for intermediate trips did not increase.

Meanwhile the 10 daytime charge for HGVs dropped to 6.

Mr Fanning said: "To date, the toll change appears to have had little impact on traffic levels with our customers continuing to enjoy the service, reliability and excellent value that the M6 Toll offers.

"The early response from hauliers to the reduced fee has been positive and we look forward to more fleets discovering the advantages of the M6 Toll during the trial discount period."

He added: "Industry called for this extensive trial and we are reminding all fleets that use the traffic corridor of our move."

The daily average of vehicles using the route in August was 55,362 compared with 55,308 in July.

The M6 Toll links junction four of the existing M6 at Coleshill, Warks, with junction 11 near Cannock, Staffordshire.
