Last smoking train brings in ban
One train
One Rail says a smoking ban will release more seats
A smoking ban for travellers using operator One's trains in the east of England starts on Monday.

One's Anglia service between Norwich and London was the only route where limited smoking was allowed.

But the firm is bringing in a smoke ban on the service, which will boast smart new carriages.

A spokesman said: "We believe the change generally reflects public opinion and will mean cleaner trains and more seating on busy services."

More seating expected

One Rail has recognised that even on busy trains some passengers are reluctant to take up seats in carriages where smoking is allowed.

The spokesman said: "A move to non-smoking accommodation will release additional seats.

"From September and over the following 15 months new Mark 3 carriages will be introduced to the London-Norwich route and they will all be non-smoking.

"Posters will be displayed in stations over the coming weeks to notify passengers of the changes."
