Bikers hired to stop rail dangers

Last year children were filmed trespassing on the tracks
Three specialist transport police officers have been sponsored by Network Rail to stop children vandalising stations and trespassing on the tracks.

The team will ride around the South East during the school holidays on motorcycles to catch people breaking transport laws.

Network Rail has also organised events and activities, such as beach soccer in Margate, to keep children entertained.

The measures have been introduced as rail crime increases during the summer.

'Risk of electrocution'

Margaret Barker, from Network Rail, said: "With long days and light evenings it is easy to understand why children want to play outside.

"But it is hard to understand why some risk their lives playing on dangerous railway tracks.

"As well as the risk of being hit by a train, there is the risk of electrocution from live rails or overhead lines.

"We implore parents and guardians to make sure their children understand the dangers of playing on the tracks."
