Memorials for accident victims
Memorial signs, remembering the victims of fatal accidents, have appeared at roadsides across the North West.

The signs feature a scarlet anemone - the Ancient Greek symbol for love and loss - accompanied by a "Remember Me" message with space underneath for the name and age of the victim.

The plaques are the idea of road safety charity RoadPeace, which hopes that the scheme will be taken up officially rather than just by victims' families.

Margaret Highton, North West co-ordinator for the charity RoadPeace, says the permanent memorials aim to provide a more lasting tribute to those who have died.

The signs have been put up across Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside.
