Vigilance urged over terror targets
Lib Dem Conference generic
Army camps and airports could be high on the list of terrorists looking for targets outside London, the Liberal Democrat Conference was warned on Wednesday.

The party's home affairs spokesman Simon Hughes said army camps, like Colchester and Catterick, and nuclear plants, like Sellafield, could be among their targets.

They may also aim to strike at rail stations like Birmingham New Street or Crewe, and airports, like Manchester and Glasgow.

"We must be as vigilant there as we are in Westminster and Whitehall," Mr Hughes said.

Most of the public was being kept in the dark by the government over the nature and scale of preparations to deal with terrorist attack, Mr Hughes said.

"Serious questions remain about how well-integrated the emergency services are across the country.

"I want the public to be prepared but not alarmed."
