Staff return after Sars link
Derriford Hospital
The patient was treated at Derriford Hospital
A number of staff at a Devon hospital who were isolated after coming into contact with a possible Sars case have returned to work.

Managers at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth were advised to monitor affected staff for 10 days.

The patient, who recently returned from the Far East, had been showing signs of the virus.

He has been released from hospital and the results of tests he underwent are due back this week.

Dr David Dance, a consultant microbiologist at the hospital, said the only people who had any contact with the case were a very restricted number of health care staff.

Staff at the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske took infection control measures on Thursday when a patient told doctors he feared he had Sars.

The man had recently returned from the Middle East.

Staff put on protective masks and isolated him from other patients.

But an examination revealed that he was suffering from a slight viral infection, and he was allowed home.
