It has taken three years to rebuild the train fleet |
A 30m project to cut train delays and cancellations between Yorkshire and London has been completed. Great North Eastern Railway has spent three years rebuilding its fleet of locomotives to make them more reliable.
All 31 locomotives, which are owned by HSBC and leased by GNER, have been stripped down and improvements made to mechanical and electrical components.
A GNER spokesman told BBC News Online: "The work will cut down the chances of breakdown and reduce delays caused by train faults by 50%."
The work has also included fitting the Train Protection and Warning System (TPWS) which is being adopted across the rail network.
TPWS is designed to reduce the risks of collision, derailment due to trains exceeding speed restrictions around curves and collision with buffer stops.
