Proposals have been put forward to expand Luton Airport |
A campaign against the expansion of runways in the east of England has been started by a group of councils. Hertfordshire County Council, Essex County Council and East Hertfordshire District Council are calling on the government to scrap proposals which could see new runways at Stansted Airport and Luton Airport.
On Saturday Derrick Ashley, a Hertfordshire County councillor and spokesman on the environment, said: "There are serious concerns about what the government is doing and the possible impact on the environment.
"Our research shows that future demand can be met without needing new runways in the south-east.
