Annie Peacock says the treatment makes her more positive |
Student doctors in the South West could soon be trying their hands at spiritual healing. The subject is being offered by the region's new medical school as part of their training.
Spiritual healer David Butcher helps people of all ages suffering from all types of conditions.
Now his skills are to be used to help trainee doctors studying at the Peninsula Medical School.
We're giving students the chance to explore the range of health beliefs they will come across in the community |
Reflexology and healing are already used at Derriford Hospital's cancer support centre.
Annie Peacock was diagnosed with cancer last October.
She has had surgery and is undergoing chemotherapy.
She says healing helps her in many ways.
"I am more relaxed with a more positive state of mind and generally feel my focus is on being well rather than being ill.
First time
The new course will form part of optional studies.
"This is not something we are endorsing or validating," said Doctor John McLachlan of the Peninsula Medical School.
"What we're doing is giving students the chance to explore the range of health beliefs they will come across in the community.
The course, which is though to be the first of its kind, will be offered to students for the first time next year.
