Supplies of cones have reached "critical level" |
Traffic cones can be returned to a Sussex council with no questions asked under a "cone amnesty". A serious shortage of the traffic markers has led Eastbourne Borough Council to plead for their return.
The orange cones are needed in time for the town's summer airshow Airbourne, held from 14 to 17 August.
A council spokesman said supplies have decreased to "critical levels" in the course of events including the airshow, the Ladies International Tennis Championship and Skate, a roller-skating festival.
'Not particularly attractive'
Ron Cussons, director of tourism and leisure for the council, said: "While I don't find orange cones particularly attractive myself, clearly some people do and are taking them home - and we need them back."
Residents have been urged to look in their gardens, garages and around their homes to find the missing cones.

They can then be taken to any of the council's reception areas. The authority has promised not to take any action if cones are returned before the start of June.
Mr Cussons said: "Sussex Police have proved amnesties do get members of the public to hand over items of a certain nature and we would love our cones back before another mega Airbourne."
A council spokesman said the cones were needed to manage traffic flows through the town and ensure access for emergency vehicles.
