Charges discriminate, say disabled drivers
Disabled customers are claiming Telford town centre's new car parking charges are discriminatory.

Under Telford Town Centre Management's new scheme, disabled people will get one hour free parking.

But disabled driver Dave Parsons, from Dawley, said the concession was not good enough.

He told BBC Radio Shropshire a large number of disabled people stay in Telford town centre for longer than an hour.

'Restricted income'

"It takes a lot longer, for example, than one hour to try on clothing.

"Disabled people have a very restricted income. The majority of people are unable to work through their disability and the charges eat into that."

The new charges were supposed to come into force on Tuesday but technical problems with the new system were discovered at the weekend.

Tests are now going to be carried out on Wednesday, but the charges will not be started properly until next Tuesday.
