Guns were also taken to stations not designated for the amnesty |
Sixty weapons have been handed in to police stations across Sussex in the first two days of the gun amnesty. The first nationwide amnesty in seven years was launched on Monday and will run until the end of April.
It was set up in an attempt to cut down on gun-related crime and give owners of illegal or unwanted weapons a chance to hand them in without fear of prosecution.
The weapons surrendered in Sussex include revolvers, a harpoon gun as well as air rifles and BB guns.

Assistant Chief Constable Geoff Williams said: "The response from the public is very encouraging. "Every single weapon taken out of circulation is good news and I hope that large numbers of people will continue to take advantage of this opportunity to get rid of unwanted and unneeded weapons before new legislation comes into force."
Soon new laws will make it an offence to possess a replica firearm or air weapon in a public place without reasonable excuse.
People who break the law could face a minimum of five years in prison.
Weapons can be handed in at nine designated police stations in the county.
About 20 guns and similar items have been taken to other police stations.
