Police say using a mobile impairs driving

The force has launched a month-long campaign targeting phone users on the move.

There is no specific law against using a phone while driving, although the government is considering new legislation.

But officers argue that drivers cannot be in full control of a vehicle if they are driving and talking on a mobile at the same time.

They claim there is growing evidence that the use of phones is a factor in many serious collisions.

During April, Humberside traffic patrols will stop phone-using motorists and warn them of the dangers.

If the driver is considered to be not in proper control of the vehicle they will be given a fixed penalty notice.
