Funds needed for RSPCA centre

An appeal has been launched for funds to build a re-housing centre for abandoned dogs.

A former RSPCA rescue dog Sunny is the mascot behind plans to convert a boarding kennel in Weston-super-Mare into a state of the art re-housing centre.

The North Somerset branch of the RSPCA needs 500,000 to make this happen.

A spokesperson for the venture said: "We re-house over 800 dogs every year and we have to raise this money ourselves.

"There are many ways people can contribute.

"They can buy a kennel, for example, or sponsor the fostering of a dog," she added.

Sunny, a seven-year-old cross between a Norfolk Terrier and a Jack Russell, made the news in February when she took the role of Annie's dog Sandy in a production of the musical Annie at the Playhouse Theatre in Weston.

She was originally taken to the RSPCA as an unwanted three-month-old puppy.
