Council cracks down on fly-tipping
Rubbish
Fly-tippers in Mansfield-Woodhouse face hefty fines
Businesses will face fines of up to 25,000 if they illegally tip their waste, a district council says.

Mansfield District Council in Nottinghamshire says it will take action against any firms caught dumping rubbish on public land.

The warning comes after businesses and residents started to abuse a scheme aimed at taking away household and trade waste.

The trial scheme introduced in Mansfield Woodhouse allowed people to use skips to dump rubbish on three consecutive Saturdays.

Forty tonnes

The skips were placed on an area of land known as the Lords Ground.

But the council says businesses and individuals still left rubbish on the site when the skips were removed.

A spokesman said a community association had to clear away up to 40 tonnes of waste dumped illegally.

The district council has been monitoring the site with CCTV cameras and patrols and is planning to take offenders to court.
