Voting using mobile phones is being pioneered in the East. The new schemes mean some of us will be voting in an entirely new way at this year's local elections in Norfolk and Suffolk.
E-voting is coming to Norwich and Ipswich, where more than 6,000 people have already registered to use it.
In the past residents had to vote using ballot boxes.
But now Norwich City Council and Ipswich Borough Council are pioneering voting through the use of text messaging using mobile phones.
It is part of the government's drive to increase turnout.
James Hehir, chief executive of Ipswich Borough Council, said: "The idea is to get young people to vote because young people nationally aren't voting.
"We want to try to encourage more people to vote."
