A man has been cautioned over Cornwall gorse fires |
Fire investigators are trying to establish the cause of two huge gorse fires in Devon. On Thursday morning, 45 firefighters tackled a gorse fire on Countisbury Hill, near Lynton.
The fire is being treated as suspicious.
The cause of a fire which destroyed about 50 acres of heathland at Woodbury Common in East Devon is also being investigated, although it is not being treated as suspicious.
In Cornwall, a man has been cautioned for arson over five gorse blazes at Five Lanes, near Launceston on Thursday.
The 23-year-old man is from the Launceston area.
Police are not linking the fires with those in Devon.
Homes threat
It took 75 firefighters two hours to bring the fire at Woodbury Common under control.
They managed to prevent the flames from reaching nearby homes.
Firefighters from six stations also tackled a gorse fire in west Cornwall on Wednesday.
It was the 32nd gorse fire in the county since Sunday.
A fire service spokeswoman said that recent dry weather had led to high risk of fires.
Several fires have also been blamed on the traditional practice of "swailing", in which farmers have been burning off old crops, but have lost control of the flames.
The practice is allowed from November to March.
