Prince celebrates village anniversary
The Prince of Wales in Dorset
Prince Charles sampled cider produced in the village
The Prince of Wales has visited the village he helped to create 10 years ago.

He joined villagers in Poundbury, near Dorchester in Dorset, for their anniversary celebrations.

Prince Charles saw displays which included photographs and biographies of local residents and even took time to sample the locally produced cider.

The village - nicknamed Charlesville - now has more than 700 residents and has a long-term target of 2,500 homes.

The Prince of Wales was also given a tour of the first general store - Poundbury Village Stores - where he walked through the aisles of the mini-supermarket.

I had the Prince in my bedroom, I would have had it looking nicer if I had known.
Isobel Hallett, Poundbury's oldest resident
In the village square he had a chance to taste local produce at the Taste Of The West Dorset food fair.

He also called on the home of Poundbury's oldest resident, Isobel Hallett, who is 92.

After showing Prince Charles around her home, Mrs Hallett said: "I'm a bundle of nerves.

"I had the prince in my bedroom, I would have had it looking nicer if I had known.

"I have been very happy here. I moved here four years ago because my daughter lives on the other side of Poundbury.

"Everybody is very friendly here."

The prince designed Poundbury to reflect his views on the importance of a traditional approach to housing, but it has attracted criticism for being old fashioned.
