War protests put strain on police
Protest in Oxford's Cornmarket
More than 1,000 people protested in Oxford city centre
Anti-war protests are putting a huge strain on policing in Oxfordshire and Berkshire, according to officers.

Due to the spate of demonstrations in the area Thames Valley Police is considering applying for extra funds to police the protests.

Although the rallies are generally peaceful, the police have to be present, and now say they need more money to help cope with the extra staffing needed.

It follows the lead of officers in Gloucestershire who have said that they are facing problems because they are policing ongoing demonstrations at RAF Fairford, where the B52 bombers are being sent out to Iraq.

Last week, officers from Thames Valley Police attended a demonstration by over 1,000 anti-war protestors in Oxford's Cornmarket.

There have also been demonstrations at military bases across the area, such as at RAF Brize Norton and RAF Welford.
