A mother whose son died in the Bristol heart babies scandal is starring in a video to help other grieving parents.

Michaela Willis's son Daniel died at the Bristol Royal Infirmary in 1993, when he was just a week old.

After his death she co-founded the Bristol Children Heart Action Group which secured an inquiry into the heart scandal at the hospital.

It revealed between 30 and 35 children who underwent heart surgery at the BRI between 1991 and 1995 died unnecessarily as a result of sub-standard care.

Save lives

It also discovered organs had been removed from dead patients for research without relatives' consent.

Now Ms Willis is appearing in a special video to help bereaved parents understand more about post-mortem examinations.

In the video, she says: "I know in the case of my son it helped to know that doctors had looked at his heart and learned from it and this has possibly helped towards saving other children's lives."
