Blooming: Daffodils are a big draw at Cotehele
A project to boost the number of visitors to Cornwall's public gardens celebrates its tenth anniversary this week.

The 14 gardens, stretching from the Scillies to the Tamar Valley, have all been marketed together under the collective name of Cornwall Great Gardens for the last decade.

And the move has proved popular, with 3m visitors last year.

Cotehele has been promoting itself as a haven for daffodil lovers.

The estate near Calstock, has more than 400 different varieties of daffodil, an echo of the huge daffodil industry which once thrived in the Tamar Valley.

And staff there have been working hard to make sure rare native varieties do not die out.

John Lanyon said: "What we wanted to do was find out more about the daffodils here at Cotehele and on the estate.

"The more we looked at it, the more we found and the more interest we had. It has snowballed from there really."

Great Gardens organisers now hope to launch their own dedicated web site.
