house fire
Neighbours alerted emergency services after hearing an alarm
An investigation has been launched following a fatal house fire in Falmouth.

An elderly man died, and an elderly woman was injured, when flames broke out at the house on the Beacon estate.

Two fire crews were called to the scene at 0600 GMT to deal with the fire, which is believed to have started in the kitchen.

The Fire Brigade said a smoke alarm saved the woman's life.

Neighbours alerted the emergency services after hearing the alarm and fire crews were able to lead her to safety.

She has been taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital at Treliske suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke.
