Public help leads to drug arrests

Information about drug dealers is given to Crimestoppers
A campaign to target drug dealers in Leeds has had early successes thanks to the public, say police.

Ten people have been arrested in the Holbeck area for drug-related offences with seven of them being charged.

The Dob in a Dealer campaign was launched last month to tackle drugs problems in the south of Leeds.

Police say the arrests are a direct result of information supplied to the Crimestoppers phone line by members of the public.

Inspector Steve Bennett said: "We have already taken action based on the information that has been supplied to us.

"The results speak for themselves.

"We now have people appearing before court in relation to offences involving drugs committed in the South Leeds area.

The Dob in a Dealer initiative has also been running in Bradford since last year.
