The dress Hollywood star Angelina Jolie was to wear to the Oscars has been stolen in west London. The 3,000 red corset dress, complete with cherubs, was snatched from designer Scott Henshall's car in Knightsbridge on Wednesday.
Eight other dresses, including Oscars outfits for hotel heiress Paris Hilton and It Girl Tamara Beckwith, were also stolen - along with jewellery and accessories worth 30,000 in total.
They were in bags ready to be flown out to Los Angeles in time for the glamorous film awards ceremony on Sunday.
Mr Henshall returned from a shopping trip to Harvey Nichols to find the roof of his convertible BMW had been slashed open.
'Sober' show planned
He flew out to Los Angeles on Thursday to tell Ms Jolie she has three days to find something else to wear.
He said: "There is no way I can remake Angelina's or any other dresses in time."
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Police are investigating the theft of nine dresses worth 30,000 and other clothing and accessories from a car parked in Lowndes Square."
Organisers are planning a more sober show for the 75th awards ceremony on Sunday, to reflect the fact war with Iraq has begun.
