Legal action to remove gypsies delayed
Travellers
The gypsies are on their third site in the Redcar borough
Plans to evict gypsies from an unofficial site in East Cleveland have had to be put on hold.

Redcar and Cleveland Council took out a court order to remove the gypsies from Dormanstown near Redcar, but on Wednesday legal action was adjourned until Monday, 24 March.

The gypsies had previously been evicted from an illegal site in nearby Warrenby.

Councillor Dave McLuckie, lead member for community safety said gypsies must go to neighbouring borough's, as their official gypsy site in Southbank is out of action because of vandalism.

The wrangle began in January when around six gipsy families voluntarily left the official South Bank site.

Temporary opening

They left after other travellers caused problems on the site, which was closed because of the damage caused.

The six gipsy families went to a previously closed site at Warrenby, near Redcar, which was reopened temporarily.

They allegedly let other gypsies onto the site, and were evicted after the council got a court order to remove them.

They then went to a site at the end of Hobson Avenue, Dormanstown, where they have now been living for several weeks.
