People dumping waste illegally were targeted by police in Birmingham on Tuesday. Officers spent the day monitoring five locations across the city as part of Operation Cleansweep.
Trucks and vans carrying rubbish were stopped and their drivers asked to produce legal documents which allow them to carry waste.
Police, who teamed up with the Environment Agency and the city council, had stopped 25 vehicles by Tuesday lunchtime, with half of the drivers unable to produce the correct documentation.
Quick buck
Their details were taken with a view to possible prosecutions.
Locations in Ward End, Ladywood and Rubery were monitored in the morning, with officers moving to Winson Green and Longbridge in the afternoon.
Dr David Hudson, the Environment Agency's Birmingham manager, said: "It is often unregistered carriers who fly-tip.
"The illegal tipping of waste, or fly-tipping, is a scourge which threatens both the environment and quality of life.
"Initiatives such as today's will hopefully act as a deterrent to people who think they can make a quick buck by threatening the environment," he added.
