Three people have appeared before magistrates in Carlisle accused of animal cruelty and burglary. The charges relate to the death of a number of animals at a sanctuary in west Cumbria earlier this month.
Michael Faulder, 20, from the Fourways, in Prospect, near Aspatria and David Faulder, 22, from Lawson Street, Aspatria, appeared in court on Monday.
A 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, also appeared before Carlisle Magistrates with the other men.
It is alleged that all three committed 21 offences of animal cruelty at the Halcyon Haven Animal Sanctuary on the evening of the 6 March or in the early hours of the 7 March.
The charges include the torture of six cats, 11 rabbits and two guinea pigs as well as a horse which was shot in the eye.
No pleas were entered and all were bailed to addresses outside the county.
The case was adjourned until the 31 March 2003.
