Tickets sales for the concert have raised 17,775 |
Guitar legend Eric Clapton has played a special gig at his daughter's school to raise money for music and computer equipment. The rock star's 17-year-old daughter, Ruth, is a sixth-former at Birkdale School in Sheffield.
Money raised from the event will also benefit a drug rehabilitation charity in Antigua that Clapton has supported for many years.
A spokesman for the independent school said: "His daughter is in the sixth form and because of that he has agreed to help raise money for the school."
Demand to see Tuesday evening's one-off performance was so great that pupils and parents' names were drawn out of a hat.
The 790 tickets for the concert in the school hall were sold at 22.50 each.
