Church considers spy cameras
St Petroc
St Petroc: Grade One listed building
CCTV could be installed in a Cornish church to stop vandals who are continuing to cause thousands of pounds of damage.

St Petroc Church in Bodmin has been targeted several times by people throwing stones and bricks at the doors and stained glass windows.

The church is a Grade One listed building because of its historical importance to the area, but that has not stopped it being targeted by vandals.

In the latest attack, a stained glass window was broken and a door badly damaged which will cost an estimated 3,000 to repair.

On Saturday, parishoners will start to clear from the churchyard of bricks and large stones which they say are being used as missiles by the vandals.

'Very distressing'

But the rector of St Petroc, Graham Minors, says the church may have to resort to installing CCTV cameras both inside and outside the building if the damage continues.

Church warden Mike Jones, said: "We have had a look at all the options and it might be cheaper than installing grills on the windows.

"Grills would also take away from the look of the building."

He added: "I have been worshipping there since 1972 and I have never known this amount of vandalism.

"They even took the spotlights, including the concrete bases.

"It is very distressing for us, but also for all the parishioners and visitors."
