Kurds march in support of war
March by Kurdish Society in Manchester
Kurdish protestors marched through the city centre
Hundreds of Kurdish protestors are marching through Manchester in support of a war with Iraq.

The demonstrators, many of whom fled to the UK from northern Iraq, were due to march though the city centre on Friday.

About 500 people are expected to gather at Whitworth Park before moving to Piccadilly Gardens for a rally.

Greater Manchester Police said officers will be escorting the protestors along the city centre route.

Nabaz Shawcat, organiser of the Kurdish Society march, said: "If we let Saddam off the hook this time then there will be another 12 years of misery and another 12 years of Iraqi people suffering under sanctions.

"People don't realise that at the moment in Iraq there is torture, murder and ethnic cleansing.

"It is not just the Kurdish people who are suffering."
