New study tackles transport problems
Traffic jam
Dualling of the A47 between Eye and King's Lynn is included in the propsals
Ways of tackling existing and future transport problems between Cambridgeshire and Norfolk are recommended in a study published on Tuesday.

The area looked at incorporates the A47 trunk road between its junction with the A1 west of Peterborough, and the beginning of the Norwich southern bypass.

The Peterborough to Norwich railway is also included.

Study proposals include
Dualling sections of the A47 from Eye bypass to King's Lynn
New railway station on the outskirts of Norwich
Upgrades of larger railway stations
Increase in rail freight
Promotion of walking and cycling in market towns

Among the proposals are the dualling of several sections of the A47, and improving bus services to give better links between market towns.

Mike Salter, study manager of GO-East, which commissioned the report, said: "The study...could bring significant safety, economic, accessibility and integration benefits to the area."

The Regional Planning body will be consulting District and County Councils on the plans before they go to the Transport Secretary in the summer.
