The Landrover is fully kitted out for the journey |
A couple from Kent have embarked on a 10-month road trip so they can emigrate to New Zealand. Instead of buying airline tickets Adam Plimmer and Angela Sheffield decided to make the journey overland in a Landrover.
They have set themselves a budget of 10,000 and a time limit of 10 months for the adventure.
The pair said goodbye to family and friends on Sunday in a roadside cafe on the A20 on Wrotham Hill.
Miss Sheffield is a New Zealander |
Speaking on BBC Radio Kent, Mr Plimmer said: "Angela is a New Zealander and she has always expressed a desire to go back. "I did not really want to leave my trusty Landrover behind and I came up with the idea of driving back."
The pair put as many of their belongings as they could in the vehicle and the rest will be shipped over.
The first leg of the journey took the couple from the Oakdean Cafe to Dover ferry port.
From there they will travel across Europe before heading through Iran, Pakistan, Tibet, Laos and Australia.
No ferreting around
Miss Sheffield said: "We thought we can do this ourselves so why not take the Landrover and drive overland."
Mr Plimmer said they would be able to drive all the way to Singapore and then get a ship to Darwin, Australia, drive to Sydney and go by sea to Auckland, New Zealand.
The vehicle has been kitted out and the pair have made sure they know exactly where everything is.
Mr Plimmer said: "We've built these cupboards in the back and everything has got its own spot so when I say Ang' where's the washing up liquid we know which cupboard it's in and we don't have to keep ferreting around for half an hour looking for it."
