Child-Safe aims to protect children in Cheshire
Coronation Street star William Roach and Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand are backing a campaign against child abuse in Cheshire.

Child-Safe, launched on Thursday, aims to provide parents with information about child abuse to help protect children from becoming victims.

It will offer information and guidance to organisations involved in sport and other youth group activities.

It has been set up by Cheshire County, Halton and Warrington Councils.

It is also backed by Cheshire Police and various child protection committees.

Children warned

Mr Roach, the Street's Ken Barlow, said: "Children are programmed to trust adults and to violate that trust is abhorrent, it goes against all the laws of nature.

"We don't want them to think that around every corner there's someone who is going to be breaking that law, there isn't.

"However, they just need to be aware. They need to know that they're loved, trusted and adults can be relied on.

"They just need to be forewarned that anything unusual, anything that worries them or threatens them, what to do and who to turn to."
