Ship refit contract boosts docks
Queen's Wharf at Falmouth Docks
The Docks' Queen's Wharf suffered a serious fire only two months ago
Jobs at a Cornish docks are looking more secure after the announcement of a multi-million pound Ministry of Defence contract.

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary tanker Oakleaf will arrive at Falmouth Docks next month for a refit.

It comes only two months after a severe fire at Queen's Wharf at the Docks.

The port's pilot, David Barnicoat, says the contract will have a big impact on the town's economy.

"Oakleaf is arriving on 7 April and will be here for 54 days.

'Good news'

"That's really good news for the work force," he said.

"It gives the yard a two-month period of stability while it looks around for other work."

Only two months ago, part of the dock was destroyed after a fire broke out at Queen's Wharf.

A feasibility study is now being carried out to see if the docks will be eligible for government money for re-building.
