Police have invoked stop-and-search powers
A woman has been arrested at RAF Fairford.

She was arrested by Ministry of Defence police on Tuesday in connection with alleged aggravated trespass.

After breaching the main security fence, she managed to climb onto an inner fence where she waved a protest banner.

After being taken to Stroud police station for questioning, the woman was later released without charge.

B-52 bombers

She is the second person to be arrested at the base in the last two days.

On Monday, 61-year-old Lindis Percy from Hull was arrested, and has since been charged with aggravated trespass.

She was bailed to appear before Cheltenham Magistrates on 19 March.

Police have stepped up patrols at the Gloucester RAF and USAF base, where 14 US B-52 bombers have been deployed.

Police have also invoked special stop-and-search powers to detain anyone they regard as suspicious within a mile of the perimeter fence.

14 B-52 bombers have touched down at Fairford over the last two days.
