Sir Bob Scott: "The rewards for Liverpool will be immense" |
Liverpool was taking its bid to be named European Capital of Culture 2008 to London on Monday. The city's Love and Joy Gospel Choir will be singing Liverpool's new Culture Anthem at the Palace of Westminster.
Senior ministers, MPs and Peers have been invited to attend a reception at the House of Commons.
The event is being staged as part of the city's final push to win support from top opinion formers.
Sir Bob Scott, who is leading the culture bid, said: "We will be talking to some very important people who will help decide who wins the culture title.
'Rich heritage'
"We will be highlighting the benefits winning this bid will bring, not only to Liverpool, but also to the whole of the North West region.
"The rewards for Liverpool will be immense.
"There is a programme of events and activities leading up to 2008 which will celebrate the renaissance taking place in the city and building on our cultural diversity and rich heritage.
"We will be spelling out to MPs how Capital of Culture will bring long-lasting cultural and economic benefits and help the future regeneration of the city."
Government ministers and civil servants from key departments will evaluate the bids from the six cities that have been shortlisted for European Capital of Culture in 2008.
They will then advise a panel of judges before they make a final recommendation to the Prime Minister.
