Ryanair jet
Ryanair predicts 70,000 passengers will use the service in its first year
Blackpool Airport has attracted its first budget airline service.

Ryanair has announced it will be running daily Boeing 737 flights from Dublin to the airport from 22 May.

One-way ticket prices will start at 29.99 and the announcement is expected to increase the resort's popularity with the Irish holiday market.

Ryanair said it anticipated that 70,000 visitors would use the new service in its first year with half of them being incoming Irish visitors.

Taking the average visitor spend as 250, it added that the business would be worth about 9m to the local economy.

Flights currently leave the airport - which is owned by Blackpool Council - for destinations across Britain and abroad, including Iceland, Spain and Italy.
