Crack down on crime
West Mercia police says an operation to crack down on crime on some estates in Shropshire has been successful.

Operation Crystal was in force in Malinslee and Overdale from Tuesday morning until Wednesday night.

The operation aimed to target a number of problems in the area including benefit fraud and truancy.

During the operation five people were arrested, four abandoned vehicles towed away and 20 tickets issued to people who did not have any car tax.

More patrols

Sergeant Paul Franks, from West Mercia Police, said it showed residents the police were working for them.

"We stopped and talked to a lot of people in the area," he said.

"It's a constant issue in the media that residents want to see more patrols on the estates.

"This initiative provided the public with the reassurance that officers are out there and doing something."
