The Bridlington lifeboat station has two boats
A lifeboat crew and an animal charity are to receive 2m from a man's will.

Half will go to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in Bridlington and the rest to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) in the Yorkshire region.

It was donated by Antony Jones, who lived in the East Yorkshire resort, and died at the age of 40 last July.

He had recently received 3.4m compensation after a hospital operation went wrong five years ago, leaving him severley disabled.

Seaside traffic

The RNLI is looking to use the money to provide a new home for its two boats.

At their current base opposite Bridlington Spa they have to take the boat down the main road, stopping traffic to reach the beach.

Chairman of Bridlington Lifeboat Richard Dunk told BBC News Online: "We are absolutely delighted that somebody has left this amount of money to the charity. We rely on legacies and gifts."

RSPCA spokesperson Heather Holmes told BBC News Online: "It's fantastic. This is a huge amount of money and we are extremely grateful.

"It will prove invaluable for the future of the RSPCA."

A smaller legacy was also left to the Riding for the Disabled.
