Uncertain future for Suffolk vineyard
Rob Hempshill at Shawsgate vineyard
Mr Hempshill: We want to save the business
The future of a Suffolk vineyard is in doubt after it was put on the market.

Shawsgate Vineyard at Framlingham is on sale for 200,000, with the adjoining farmhouse available for just under 600,000.

About 15,000 vines are grown there producing 30 wines - but there is no guarantee the new owner will continue the business.

Manager Rob Hempshill said: "We are probably one of the main specialist wine-makers in England."

"It's taken a long long time to develop our skills and expertise and we want to save it."

Award-winning wines

The 21-acre vineyard has been established for more than 25 years.

Six grape varieties are grown there, producing both white and red award-winning wines.

Owner Ray Cross said: "If we can find a customer who wants to purchase it and run it as a vineyard, that would be ideal.

"But of course one may not be able to do that."
