Police said the allegation was "fully investigated" |
Police have dropped an inquiry into claims moors murderers Myra Hindley and Ian Brady tried to snatch a girl in Manchester in the 1960s. Inquiries began last December after a woman claimed the pair, along with another man, had tried to force her into a car in August 1964.
Christine Slater, from Derbyshire, was interviewed by detectives after she alleged the attempted snatch took place in the Belle Vue area of the city.
But Greater Manchester Police have said there is "insufficient evidence" for the inquiry to continue.
At the time the inquiry was launched police said they were taking 51-year-old Mrs Slater's claims "very seriously".
'No action'
Mrs Slater, from Glossop, told them it was sometime after the incident that she recognised the people who tried to grab her as Hindley and Brady.
She then passed on the name of the second man in the car to officers.
A police spokesman said the allegation had been "fully investigated".
"[However] no further action will be taken due to insufficient evidence," he said.
The allegations were made just weeks after Hindley was cremated at a private funeral in Cambridgeshire.
