Asylum protesters lobby councillors
Protesters in Gosport
Thousands demonstrated recently
People living near a site earmarked to house hundreds of asylum seekers have met councillors to urge them to join their fight against the plan.

Members of the Daedalus Action Group met local politicians for the first time at the town hall in Gosport, Hampshire, on Wednesday afternoon.

Members hope to block government plans to convert an ex-Navy base at Lee-on-Solent into a temporary home for asylum seekers.

HMS Daedalus would house up to 400 men while they wait to find out if their requests to stay in Britain have been successful.

As many as 8,000 people recently marched in protest at the proposals.
