Travellers denied permission to build

The family wanted to build on green belt land
A family of travellers has lost its battle to build on a caravan site on green belt land in Rugby.

An appeal against a council decision to prevent Andrew and Michael Cash developing the plot on Brandon Lane was rejected on Monday.

The Cashes had planned to put six caravans on the site and build a bungalow there for their parents.

But a planning inspector upheld Rugby Borough Council's decision to deny permission for the work because the site is on green belt land.

An inquiry was told the family had been moved on eight times in Coventry in three months.

The Cashes had argued there were no other suitable pitches in the area they could build on.

But council planners said there are places available in the district and that no special circumstances applied that would justify a breach of green belt regulations.

The authority also voiced concerns about the safety of accessing the site.
