Football on the menu for Delia and Jamie
Delia Smith and Jamie Oliver
There is no rivalry in the kitchen, say Delia and Jamie
Football was on the menu when two of the biggest names in cookery came face to face for the first time.

Devoted Norwich City supporter and television stalwart, Delia Smith, met relative new boy from Essex, Jamie Oliver, a lifelong Cambridge United fan.

The two were at Delia's restaurant at Norwich City Football Club's Carrow Road ground for a sell-out dinner.

But though the pair support different teams, both were quick to dismiss suggestions of any rivalry in the kitchen.

"We are very much mutual admirers and I think Jamie is quite an extraordinary young man," Delia said.

The newcomer said he had grown up watching Delia on television.

"I think we all love her. I somehow ended up up the telly and now we've got to meet. It's marvellous.

"I've been doing it for five years now so I think I know it a little bit, but she's the boss," he said.

But as a football fan, Jamie was clearly in a lower league.

He confessed that he had not managed to get to a Cambridge match for at least 10 years, blaming the cooking industry.

Delia, on the other hand, is a regular on the terraces at Norwich City's home and away games.
