Mrs Whittaker has lived at Rock House for six years |
The family of a 95-year-old care home resident is battling against a council decision to move her to new accommodation. Hannah Whittaker has lived at Rock House residential home in Tickhill, near Doncaster, for six years, but no longer has the finances to fund her stay privately.
Doncaster Council plan to transfer her a council-run home on Monday after a medical assessment that said she needs full-time nursing care.
But Ms Whittaker's family claim her health could suffer as a result.
Her niece Joan Moss said: "It's going to have an effect on her moving into an entirely different place with different rooms, different people and a different environment.
"She has got used to this place (Rock House) and made it her home."
Staff happy
Doncaster Council were not prepared to discuss individual cases, but said in a statement they were: "legally bound to provide nursing care if a need assessment showed it was required.
A spokesman added: "We do understand that it can be upsetting moving frail older people, but this may be necessary to ensure they receive the care they are assessed as needing."
Staff at Rock House are convinced that Ms Whittaker is fine in their care.
Chief nurse Kate Martin said: "If I feel that a resident isn't suitable for the care that we can provide - I won't keep them.
"My main concern is the residents - and she is fine here."
