Former publican David Bladen, 40, and his lap dancer wife, Jane, 35, from Darfield, near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, are being held on the island of Guadeloupe.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "Two Britsh nationals were arrested in Guadeloupe on 30 January on a drugs charge.

"They are awaiting trial."

Mrs Bladen's mother, Betty told a national newspaper she thought the pair had gone to Skegness while she looked after their 15-year-old son.
