Residents asked to choose bypass route
Traffic
The three options are meant to reduce congestion in Isham
Residents are being asked which route is best for a new bypass to skirt the village of Isham in Northamptonshire.

Three options will be on display at Isham Primary School through 22 February, and 4,000 householders in affected communities are being given leaflets explaining the options.

Proposed routes for the A509 between Kettering and Wellingborough have already stirred public debate.

Robert Handley of Great Harrowden told BBC Radio Northampton that he favours Route Five, which stretches along the railway line, because he thinks the others will exacerbate traffic problems.

Differing views

He said: "It is the only one of the three routes which gives any relief to Great Harrowden, or indeed Little Harrowden, which also gets quite congested."

Resident Ruth Groom believes that Route Two - terminating near Great Harrowden - would have less impact on the environment.

She said: "Any route through the Ise Valley would destroy the green land between Burton Latimer and Isham."

Northamptonshire County Council said it was hoped to make the final decision on the preferred route by spring 2003 and complete work on the bypass in 2007.
