Inquiry after GP's dive death
Loch Linnhe
Dr Allwright was pulled unconscious from the loch
A fatal accident inquiry was due to open on Thursday into how a Merseyside GP drowned during a scuba dive in Scotland.

Dr Graham Allwright was on a night dive with a party of 11 people at a diving school near Fort William when he died in December 2001.

Dr Allwright, from Formby, had initially come to the surface of Loch Linnhe because a torch was not working, but then descended 10 metres under the water.

The 48-year-old was then pulled from the loch unconscious and efforts to revive him failed.

Experts have not been able to explain why he suddenly descended below the surface.

The inquiry into Dr Allwright's death was due to take place at Fort William Sheriff Court and last two days.

Dr Allwright's wife Jane has said that her husband had become interested in scuba diving about a year before his death and had passed all the necessary exams.
